Shadow monsters slither in sibilant stretches.
In languidly inked lines along the hallway’s walls.
Their shapes change with every movement.
Sometimes they don’t seem to be there at all.
They duck under the floorboards
When the brave ones approach.
They slither and seethe around the ankles
Of those who fear the night.
They slither silently along the hallway’s walls.
All through the night.
